One Day in Venice...
...Tommy and I, with no destination in mind, decided to jump on the first Vaparetto (Venetian waterbus) that came by and go wherever it took us. We disembarked on the island of Giudecca, primarily a residential island (which I love because my travel goal is to immerse myself in local culture).
Because it was a Sunday, not much was open, but It was fun to walk around and see how people live. We went to Church of the Redeemer which was beautiful, had amazing views of the historic center of Venice across the water, and wandered.
As we were passing Al Redentore Restaurante Pizzeria, a restaurant full of local families dressed for church and their children kicking a soccer ball around an open area next to the restaurant, we were enticed to stop for a nosh by our new friend Max, a very entertaining and knowledgeable waiter. I selected a bottle of Venetian Lugana and Max asked if he could make a recommendation which, of course, I appreciated. He suggested Giuseppe & Luigi Ribolla Gialla.
OMG... FABULOUS! The Ribolla Gialla was very pale straw in color with bright lime on the nose. The wine itself was incredible and fresh, very bright and lime forward. It was absolutely delicious on its own and complimented our lunch choices of Baccalà Mantecato (Venetian salted cod paté) and Prosciutto with Burrata beautifully. Now, I am on a mission to find Ribolla Gialla in the states!!! If you find it, please let me know!!!
